Broadband Vs WiFi

Broadband and Wi-Fi are both related to internet connectivity, but they serve different functions. Broadband is the hard-wired cable provision that pipes data to your property. It refers to the high-capacity communication technologies used to transmit or receive data, especially on a network. Broadband can be delivered in several ways: DSL, cable modem, fiber, wireless, satellite, and broadband over powerlines.

On the other hand, Wi-Fi is a wireless connection technology that your devices such as mobiles and laptops use to connect with the modem or the router. Once the broadband cable ends in your router, the internet connection is then distributed around the place using Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi uses radio waves, which can be temperamental, and this is where you may find that the top speed of broadband that comes to your house isn’t reflected in the speed your device gets when wirelessly connected.

So, in essence, broadband is the actual internet connection that your modem/router uses to send and receive data from your place to the wider world, while Wi-Fi is the method by which wireless devices can connect to that broadband connection.
